4 Airport Travel Tips That Will Save You Money, Time and Stress
There have been a lot of changes at airports recently and the more you are aware of these changes and prepared to deal with them, the better your experience at airports will be. Here are airport travel tips that will save you money, time and stress.
Airport travel is hectic enough to begin with. These 4 tips will be of help to any air traveler no matter how little or much they fly.
Print Boarding Pass at Home
The days of airlines issuing paper tickets are pretty much a thing of the past. Everything today is done electronically. However you still need to have a boarding pass. For the time being, at least, that is still paper. You can save yourself time and stress at the airport if you print it up at home. Many airlines will allow you to do this today.
Call Ahead to Verify if Plane is On Time
Before you leave home or your hotel for the airport, call the airline or check online to see if your plane is on time. Delays are a pretty regular thing today and there is nothing worse than having to wait at the airport for hours because your flight has been delayed. Here is an important word of caution, with that being said. It is not a bad idea to still arrive fairly close to the original departure time. I realize this may see contradictory, but sometimes the airline solves the problem that caused the delay faster than it projected. When that happens, the departure time can move back up very fast. If you are not at the airport you can very easily miss your flight.
How to Avoid Surprises with Bags
Many airlines today have initiated charge for extra bags. Also each airline seems to have its own maximum limit on what a bag can weigh. The same goes for size. It is strongly advised to pack light as light as possible when traveling today. Doing that will definitely same you money.
It is also advised to call your airline in advance and talk to someone live. Ask them what their requirements are for bags and be sure you are incompliance when you arrive for departure. If your bags are not in compliance you run the risk of being charged extra or at worst your bags not being accepted for flight travel at all.
Be Prepared for the Security Screening
Every air traveler has to pass through security screening today. If you are prepared for this it will go quick and smooth.
You will be required to take off your shoes, so wear shoes that you can remove and put back on easily.
If you have toiletry items in your carry on you will be required to display them and they must be in a sealed 1 qt. plastic bag. They also can be no larger than 3 oz.
If you have a laptop computer you will be asked to take it out of a carrying case and place it in its own separate plastic bin.
Be sure to take off any belts or jewelry and empty from your pockets anything metal (money clips, pens, cell phone).
Have your boarding pass in your hand as you pass through the gate.
Be sure to keep these airport travel tips in mind the next time you are flying and your trip will start and end much more smooth.
Requirements within an airport and for air travel are subject to change, so it is always a good idea to check with your airline before you travel.
